What’s an OVP? What support do I need?
An OVP is an Online Video Platform. An SaaS (software-as-a-service) that provides end-to-end tools for managing, publishing, and measuring live and on-demand video. Typical components include video hosting, encoding, custom players, syndication, analytics, interactivity, and monetization. The support that an OVP provides is the support you need to maximize your investment.
User-generated content sites (UGCs) like YouTube and Vimeo, and social media sites like Facebook, are another option. They offer similar functionality for free. While that is a great price for encoding/delivering your content and offering community, there are trade-offs. Using a UGC generally means having less overall control over your assets and limitations in terms of resolution, playback quality, customization, detailed analytics, and technical support. Oh…and from a branding perspective, let’s not forget that another company’s logo may also appear on all your video players.
