Matt Venuti is a San Francisco-based composer and musician. We’ve shot a few things for Matt and his band, The Venusians, but this is an example of what you might call user-generated content (UGC). Throughout this site we promote the need for high-quality, professional video production. User-generated content typical is shot on inferior equipment and is thought to have a lower production value. However, that isn’t always the case. UGC can supplement professionally-produced video content. With a little TLC and patience (ie. a tripod, lights, and an external mic), user-generated content can be extremely valuable for quick turnaround video segments.

This impromtu performance took place at Bardessono in Napa while I was on vacation. Matt wanted me to hear the beautiful tone of his latest Hang, so we sat down and I pulled out my Kodak Zi8. Far from perfect, but not bad either. The point is, used properly, video shot with less expensive digital devices can be effective.
